![]() My daughter was diagnosed with ADHD when she was about 5 years old. She was having horrible rage fits where she was physically violent. So, i took her to see her primary pediatrician and within ten minutes, he diagnosed her with ADHD. He didn't ask her any questions, he barely looked at her! He barely asked me or my husband any questions either. Now, Bi-Polar, ADHD, anxiety, depression ect all run in my family and her fathers family. So, I took the diagnoses and ran with it thinking if the medication helped her at all, it would be better than her suffering. We started with Adderall. The medication made her stop eating all together. Shes already very tiny so any weight lose was dangerous for her. She also couldnt sleep and walked around like a zombie half the time. So I took her off the medication. We then tried Concerta. It helped her eat a little more but not much and stopped the rage fits but not the hyperactivity. I got sick of switching her around on these medications and all of them seemed to decrease her appetite and make her ill. So, i saw a different doctor. I suggested that maybe she wasn't ADHD but depression and had anxiety. This woman FINALLY believed me and started my daughter on a medication targeted for depression that was also linked to helping hyperactivity in children. Although shes not at 100%, my daughter is thriving! Her other doctor was so quick to stamp her with being ADHD she was suffering in silence and the real issue was never dealt with. So, my question is, do children get labeled ADHD too quickly and too much? It was too easy for me to just walk in to her doctors and in 10 minutes walk out with Aderrall. I really feel like 60% of children labeled ADHD are not truly ADHD. They end up drugged and on medication that, in fact, harms them more. Is it parents just too lazy to deal with children being children? Is it some scam from doctors to sell these drugs and profit? What do you think? Leave me a comment and let me know your thoughts! Also, if you have any constructive thoughts on ways to deal with my daughter, let me know! Im open for suggestions! Thank you for reading! UA-61175427-1
